Amber Henry
Co-Captain
Amber is entering her 4th year as a member of UMGNCTR and 2nd year as co-captain. She’s looking forward to helping lead and support the team through the design and build process, with the goal of creating an innovative and competitive toboggan. Amber hopes to have another year of learning, collaboration, and making memories with her teammates before graduating.
Raul Lemus
Co-Captain
Raul is in his 3rd year of Civil Engineering and has a strong interest in structural engineering. After working in commercial construction, he is excited to combine engineering design with the hands-on experience he has gained in the field.
Mackenzie Craig
Technical Exhibition Co-Lead
Mackenzie is in her 3rd year of Mechanical Engineering and her 2nd year on the team. This is her 1st year as Technical Exhibition co-lead and she is excited to work with all the Technical Exhibition members and hopes to improve their scores.
Ben Burnell
Technical Exhibition Co-Lead
Benjamin Burnell is a 4th year Civil Engineering student and 3rd year UMGNCTR team member. This year will be his first as Tech-ex co-lead. Ben brings experience in team building and a positive outlook which drives his teammates to succeed. Ben enjoys fishing, golfing, hiking, and spending summer weekends lakeside whenever possible.
Matthew Kaul
Concrete Co-Lead
Matthew is entering his 6th year of civil engineering and his 3rd year on the concrete section of UMGNCTR. This being his 2nd year as co-lead along side his colleague Dexter, he is ready to take some risks with some creative mix design and reinforcements. Outside of Tbogg, Matthew also enjoys playing beer league sports, golfing and going to the cabin.
Dexter Fjeldsted
Concrete Co-Lead
Dexter is a 5th year Civil Engineering student and has been a member of UMGNCTR for 4 years, currently serving his second year as Concrete Co-Lead. He enjoys designing and organizing concrete mixes while helping new team members develop practical skills and confidence.
Umindu Jayabandu
Superstructure Co-Lead
Umindu is a final-year Mechanical Engineering student and has been an active member of the team for over 5 years. With experience across all 3 sections of Superstructure, he brings a well-rounded understanding of the team’s design, manufacturing, and engineering processes. As a Superstructure Executive, Umindu aims to elevate the team’s technical capabilities, manufacturing standards, and overall efficiency while building a skilled and adaptable team capable of tackling any Superstructure challenge. This year, he is placing greater focus on project management, steering design, and the aerodynamics of the toboggan. His ultimate goal is to strengthen the team, develop future leaders, and bring the trophy home.
James Lovallo
Superstructure Co-Lead
James is a 4th year mechanical engineering student and has been a member of UMGNCTR since his 1st year of university. He has been involved in the superstructure section for the last 2 years. It is James’ 1st year as a superstructure co-lead and he hopes to bring 2 years of design experience to help innovate on the toboggan’s breaks and improve last years competition scores.
Marlon Alfaro
Superstructure Co-Lead
Marlon is in his 5th year of Mechanical Engineering and 2nd year with UMGNCTR. As Superstructure Co-Lead, he looks forward to applying experience from his internship at K-Tec Earthmovers. His goal is to optimize the frame for performance, safety, and manufacturability while implementing a frame jig for accurate and efficient fabrication.
Kate Penner
Finance Lead
As a 3rd year Civil Engineering student and 2nd year UMGNCTR team member, Kate Penner serves as Finance Lead. Her role is to coordinate sponsorships and outreach. With a wide range of experience as a research student and a civil consulting intern, Kate continues to build strong connections within the engineering industry. Kate enjoys playing guitar, rec sports, and being outdoors.
Sydney Haasbeek
Spirit Lead
Sydney is in her 4th year of Civil Engineering, 3rd year on the team and 2nd year as Spirit Captain. She is most excited to build the toboggan and have fun with her team in Edmonton.
